propaganda by DrabRats propaganda by DrabRats
I spent WAY too long noodling around with this one in Photoshop. It's the most complicated piece I've colored thus far and at one point it went from reasonably clean and simple to being a total mess. I hope I was able to bring it back around again... at least into the realm of 'decent'.

Awesome work, this is the most sad (and realistic) part.

"If you can read this, you are guilty of treason."
Can I get that on a shirt, please?

I really love this piece. I've never seen your work before, but this is definitely a gem! At first I thought it had something to do with the Technology era. More media=more propoaganda, more accessability=a curse in some ways, upgrades=life is easier and people are lazier... but of course, that was just my initial perspective. It's a very amusing and insightful drawing. Thank you for making it :).

Joke's on the government in this piece. 90% of their signage has been made redundant by the blindfolds. ;P

Ironically. I see this art AS propaganda. I seriously doubt that was your intent, but that was the impression I was given.

'Technology is your enemy! It shall strip your soul from you! Technological progress can only lead to conformity! Look around! YOU are the only individual! THEY are the sheep!'

Again, I doubt that was your intention, but that's the impression I was given.

How many people know, but ignore? You know, most people have knowledge to some extent about what's going on with their lives and the world, but they chose to ignore it and isolated themselves, leaving me or you like the couple in the picture (wondering in distress about what happened to the world).

There is something about it that frightens me. Perhaps it is the sign "If you can read this then you are guilty of treason."

Terrifying. I would never last in such a place. I have nightmares about these kinds of things... especially since I've re-read 1984 recently.

the colored version is nice, but this one is a more powerful version. probably because here, the juxtaposition between those who are imprisoned in a different world through artificial visual and auditory feeds and those who are "freed" from such becomes more apparent. how ironic too that freedom here doesn't necessarily mean a movement towards bliss and a better life. it seems that escape from one form of propaganda immediately exposes you into another, and on some cases, an even more horrific one.

anyway, let me stop overanalyzing and just bask on its artistic merits.
*basks on artistic merits* ;)

thanks for sharing.

peace.

Yeah, this is my fav of the two, I only put the other one up because... I didn't want to upset someone... I guess that's how I should put it.

Anyway, thanks for the in depth comments. I'm glad the themes have more layers than the one visible on the surface... when someone takes the time to look.

Very cool! love al the detail you've included! I likede reading all the signs, and I think that the text in You will be arrested is def the best!
It's such a brilliant concept too. a great piece of work. So many people have their eyes shut in todays society.

So, just a question, but how much of this is digital and how much is traditional?

Did you draw this out by hand before you drew it out on the computer?

In any case, it's an awesome concept, well rendered, just cool. not a real stretch of the imagination, but this reminds me a lot of 1984 - very cool

All the line art is done by hand and scanned. Maybe I'll start posting the B& W line art before I do the colors so people can give better critiques... I just had so much B&W in my gallery, I've been going kind of crazy with the colors.

I was asking because I am curious about the balance you have between digital and traditional medium. I wind up most entirely digital, and I'm increasingly unsure of how I feel about that....

So I was just asking for askings sake.
